Mich. and Colo. men arrested and charged for threatening U.S. Congressman Stupak over health care vote
June 8th, 2010 - 2:31 am ICT by BNO NewsBAY CITY, MICHIGAN (BNO NEWS) – A West Branch, Michigan resident and his son were charged on Monday for allegedly sending a threatening letter to U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak, prosecutors announced.
Russel Hesch, 73, of West Branch, Michigan, and his son David Hesch, 50, of Loveland, Colorado, sent the Congressman a threatening letter as they were upset over his vote in favor of the Health Care Reform Bill on March 21. Russel sent a letter to his son, David, and he forwarded that letter to Congressman Stupak’s office in Menomiee, Michigan.
The letter threatened to injure the Congressman and his family for his support of the recent health care legislation. “Actions and decisions carry consequences. Are you and your family prepared for those consequences? Is your wife, Laurie Ann, prepared for those consequences? Is your son Ken and his family prepared for those consequences?,” Russel wrote in the letter, which was forwarded to the Congressman by his son David.
“You wanted to get some Washington paint for the bridge? Not to worry, I will paint the Mackinaw Bridge with the blood of you and your family members,” Russel continued. “I will not say when and with who but I will save your blood for the high towers towards the end of this project. You will live long enough to truly experience the unfortunate but definite consequences of your decision. You will watch your world slowly crumble and erode around you. Things that used to be important won’t seem so important anymore.”
Russel further continued by saying that the Congress might be the main character of a story that parents tell their children as they cross the earlier mentioned bridge, decades from now.
If convicted, both parties face a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.
This case is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Capitol Police, and by Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney Barbara Colby Tanase.
