Elena Kagan Washington DC, May 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A memo unearthed by The Associated Press that was sent to the former President Bill Clinton from Elena Kagan, who was then the White House domestic policy aide, suggested the President to support a ban on advanced pregnancy.

Elena Kagan who has now been nominated to the Supreme Court in the United States was a former aide to President Clinton, and the memo was issued on May 13,1997. President Bill Clinton based on the advice by Elena Kagan and supported the plan by Tom Daschle, Democratic Senator of South Dakota that sought to ban on the late term abortion.

This memo gives a hint of the position of the Supreme Court nominee on the issue of abortion. Elena who has never been a judge is perceived by pro-life as favoring partial abortion. Abortion is one of the major issues she will have to rule on, if she is confirmed as a Supreme Court Judge.

However President Barack Obama said in her defense that the advice of Elena Kagan was actually not her stand, but that of the President she was serving that time.

In 2005, President George Bush’s nominee for the office of Chief Justice, John G. Roberts Jr. was also accused of been biased on abortion issues, based on a memo that he had sent to the President Ronald Reagan’s administration.
