Meira Kumar pays homage to national leaders

New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) Meira Kumar, the country’s first woman and Dalit speaker, Saturday paid homage to national leaders including Mahatma Gandhi at their memorials here.
She along with her family members visited all the 14 memorials of national leaders including Raj Ghat, Samata Sthal, Vijay Ghat, Shanti Van, Shakti Sthal, and Veer Bhumi, said Lok Sabha secretariat officials.

The Raj Ghat is the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and Samata Sthal of former deputy prime minister Jagjivan Ram, Meira Kumar’s father. Shanti Van, Vijay Ghat, Shakti Sthal and Veer Bhumi are respectively memorials to former premiers Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Meira Kumar was unanimously elected as speaker of the 15th Lok Sabha Wednesday.
