Bathinda (Punjab), March 27 (IANS) Upset over lack of action against police officials who allegedly misbehaved with women workers and later also manhandled media persons at a government function, local reporters boycotted the press conference of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here Thursday. The media persons complained to the chief minister that over-zealous police officials not only misbehaved with media persons but also physically manhandled several women aanganwari workers protesting outside the venue of a seminar. The chief minister and the state health minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla were attending the seminar.
Camerapersons took pictures of male police officials physically pushing and assaulting unarmed aanaganwari women workers as they protested outside the chief minister’s function.
Badal asked the district police chief to probe the matter, saying he could not do anything more than that. But the media persons demanded that action be taken against police officials and when this did not happen, they walked out of Badal’s press conference.
