MCD acted on only 357 of 8,030 illegal construction complaints
November 23rd, 2010 - 11:09 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) A total of 8,030 complaints of illegal construction of buildings were received by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the last three years but only 357 were taken up for investigation, the Lok Sabha was told Tuesday.
“Out of the 357 cases investigated by the vigilance department of the MCD, investigations have been completed in respect of 170 complaints and 533 officials proceeded against for departmental action for allowing unauthorised constructions,” Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
He added that one employee of the city zone has also been dismissed on this account.
A five-storey illegally constructed house collapsed in east Delhi’s Lalita Park locality Nov 15, killing at least 69 people, including daily wage workers from Bihar and West Bengal.
