Mayor Daley Calls It Quits After 20 Years

Sep 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Richard Michael Daley, the United States politician and current Mayor of Chicago, Illinois has announced yesterday that he would not seek a seventh term re-election as Mayor. After staying for more than 20 years in Office, the member of national and Democratic Party said that he wants to begin a new phase of his life. Richard Daley became the mayor in the 1989 after the death of Mayor Harold Washington.
The White House representatives reportedly said that President Barack Obama spoke with Mayor Daley on the phone. However, the representatives also added that the President released a statement where it was mentioned that no Mayor in America has loved the city more or served a community with greater passion than Richard Michael Daley. The statement also maintained that Mayor Daley helped build Chicago’s image as a world “class” city and he leaves a “legacy” o0f progress that will be appreciated for next all generations.
The Mayor feels that this time is exactly right for him to bid adieu to his post. The Mayor also said that he had always believed that every person, especially “public officials” needs to understand that there is a specific to move on with life. Mayor Daley said that for him it is the perfect time to move on. The Mayor also mentioned that his announcement is completely his personal decision for a new phase of life with his family. He also added that he thought of stepping down from his post for several months and became comfortable with his decision over the last few weeks. A reputed media source reported that the second longest serving Mayor’s wife Maggie is presently fighting against cancer. The media reports that one the potential successors of the mayor is Rahm Emanuel, however, the mayor’s office has not announced any name till now.
