Bloomberg New York City, Nov 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mayor Michael Bloomberg did it again. He claimed his third term by a very wafer thin 5-point margin.

“Conventional wisdom says that, historically, third terms haven’t been too successful,” Bloomberg told supporters at the Sheraton New York. “But we’ve spent the past eight years defying conventional wisdom!”

It was an emotional roller-coaster ride as the votes were being counted. Bloomberg got 50.6% of the votes while his rival William Thompson got 46% of the votes. It was a very close call, which was further fueled, by extraordinarily low turnout and an anti-incumbent mood that contender Thompson had got.

“We’ve proven the experts wrong - again, and again, and again - and we’re not stopping now!” Bloomberg said. “We’re going to make the next four years the best yet, and we’re going to do it with the same independent approach we’ve always taken.”

“This campaign was about defying conventional wisdom,” Thompson said. “This campaign was standing up for your core values. This campaign was about standing strong, standing tall and never backing down in the face of a formidable challenge.”
