Mayawati seeks separate quota in women’s bill

Lucknow, May 6 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati here welcomed the women’s reservation bill tabled in parliament Tuesday, but demanded provision of 50 percent reservation for women at every level of politics in the country. She said the bill providing for 33 percent quota for women in parliament and state assemblies needed to be amended.

Mayawati said: “The bill should have separate provisions to provide reservation to scheduled castes and tribes as also women from the other backward classes (OBCs).”
