Lucknow, July 23(IANS) Leader of opposition in the state assembly Ahmad Hassan, who is from the Samajwadi Party, Wednesday accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of misusing government machinery in her attempt to topple the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. Hassan said that a few senior government officials were camping in Delhi for the past few days making an all-out effort, including threatening members of parliament, to vote out the government. “Crores (Millions) of rupees were spent,” he alleged.
He said the margin of the UPA’s victory demonstrated that a majority of public representatives was in favour of the India-US nuclear deal.
“Mayawati’s only interest in linking the deal with the minorities was to create a confusion among the Muslims,” said Hassan.
“I cannot imagine how Mayawati was dreaming to become the prime minister with a meagre force of 17 MPs,” he said.
The Bahujan Samaj Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party and all those who opposed the deal did it for their political purpose and were not concerned about the progress of the country, he said.
