scott-brown-senateBoston, Jan 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The special election to fill the vacant seat of late Senator Ted Kennedy, scheduled on January 19, 2010, is finally over and the results are out. The results of Massachusetts Senate race is quiet surprising this time as people never anticipated Democrat candidate’s loss in this seat. In the initial stages of the election campaign, it was considered that Attorney General Martha Coakley will surely turn victorious but the outcome was just the opposite and Scott Brown succeeds Senator Ted Kennedy.

Though initially, the Democrats had a strong hold on this seat, the scenario had later changed. Some of the pre-poll surveys indicated that Republican Scott Brown as the favorite of the registered voters. Republican Scott Brown, who was considered to be a weaker candidate in this election has been successful in influencing the opinions of people with his well-planned election campaigns.

Victory of the Republicans in the special Senate race shows that the Democratic Party is losing its popularity in this region. This was one of the strongest seats for the Democratic Party and losing the seat is considered to be a huge defeat for them. As per the reports, the win of the Republican Party in the Massachusetts Senate seat indicates that the Democrats would face more difficulty to pass a bill in the Senate. Republican Scott Brown’s opposition of a bill can be enough to prevent a bill from becoming a law. As he had always opposed the health care reform bill of President Barack Obama during his election campaigns, the Democrats may face a tough time in getting it passed.
