debateBoston, Jan 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) As the day of the Massachusetts election to fill the Senate seat of late Senator Edward Moore Ted Kennedy is coming closer, the candidates, who have been nominated for the race are taking some concrete initiatives. Last night, Republican candidate Scott Brown and Democrat candidate Martha Coakley met for their final televised debate before the election and focused on several important issues of the present days. It has been reported that health care, abortion and war on terror formed some of the important topics of the debate.

Reports indicated that Massachusetts election, scheduled on January 19, would be a tight race for both the candidates. The Massachusetts Senate seat is extremely crucial for the Democratic Party and they have earlier reported that their candidate Martha Coakley would win the election with a safe margin. Though the Democrats claimed that their candidate has maximum chances of winning the elections, the Republicans have mentioned that Scott Brown would give neck-to-neck competition to his opponent. Both parties are quite hopeful about winning this seat and will not leave any stone unturned to receive the maximum number of votes. Therefore, the political scenario of the state is becoming tougher with the approach of the election day.

Debates before the election have always played a significant role in motivating the voters and both the candidates tried to present their arguments in a powerful manner, when they met for the last televised debate before the election. Though several issues were raised on the debate, the candidates had devoted most of the time on economic condition and the health care system of the country.
