mark2Minneapolis, Aug 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former U.S. Senator Mark Dayton is all set for a return to the world of Politics. Leaving behind his scarred six years as the U.S. senator, Mark Dayton went for a new beginning on Tuesday when he won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination at Minnesota. After a nerve wrenching vote counting session Mark Dayton was able to leave behind the Democratic Party backed House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and another candidate Matt Entenza.

Mark Dayton had been leading over his opponents in the polls before the election. Polls conducted on Aug 1 and 5 showed him leading by 23 and 16 percent respectively over Margaret Anderson Kelliher. However, on Tuesday the scenario got different as Margaret Anderson Kelliher registered some early lead. Situation got more tensed as the precincts results started pouring in. Towards the midnight, with 95 percent of precincts results out, the former U.S. Senator Mark Dayton was seen leading with 1000 votes over his opponent. Although many media sources declared Mark Dayton winner, Margaret Anderson Kelliher remained resilient and maintained that it would be wrong to come to any conclusion before the counting gets over. However, within another hour the result of the Democratic primary of Minnesota was out with Mark Dayton winning the majority. He registered a lead of around 1500 votes.

Mark Dayton will now face Republican state Representative Tom Emmer and the Independence Party’s Tom Horner for the November governor election. Many have suggested that it would not be an easy run for Mark Dayton as Tom Horner is a potential candidate who might become a problem for both the Republicans and the Democrats. Governor Tim Pawlenty is not contesting for a third term at the office.
