West Midnapore (West Bengal), Oct 2 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Saturday accused the state’s main opposition Trinamool Congress of having a “nexus” with the Maoists and said the Left wing ultras should be thrown out of state.

“We have to throw the Maoists out of the boundaries of the state. They have killed many people,” said Bhattacharjee, also a politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

“Many people have left their houses in this district and adjoining districts in the last one year due to the Maoist menace. Now these people are standing up against Maoists and returning to their homes. This is a very good sign,” Bhattacharjee said while addressing a Left Front rally at the Midnapore College School Maidan here.

Bhattacharjee, while taking a dig at the Trinamool, said the party was working hand in glove with the Maoists.

“Why it (Trinamool Congress) held a meeting in Lalgarh? It had gone there to rejuvenate the Maoists, cornered by the joint forces. But this time, even the Trinamool won’t be able to save the Maoists. The people have stood up against this unholy nexus,” Bhattacharjee added.

Earlier this year, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee held a rally in Lalgarh.

Meanwhile, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee while reacting to Bhattacharjee’s West Midnapore visit said: “They have killed so many people in Lalgarh area that they don’t have the guts to hold a meeting there. We will also hold a meeting Oct 6 in West Midnapore. We want the areas of Junglemahal to be developed. We won’t allow Junglemahal to turn into graveyards.”

Junglemahal is the name commonly given to the region comprising the three districts of the state - Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore - which are dominated by the Maoists.
