Maoists fire on security personnel in Orissa
April 16th, 2009 - 11:43 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bhubaneswar, April 16 (IANS) Continuing their day-long violence aiming to stall the electoral process, Maoists opened fire on security personnel returning from polling duty in Orissa’s Malkangiri district Thursday evening, police said.
Security personnel were returning on foot from polling duty in Kalimela area of Malkangiri when Maoists started firing on them. The security forces retaliated.
However, no injuries were reported, Deputy Inspector General (southern range) Sanjeeb Panda told IANS.
The gun battle is still raging, he said.
