Many important papers seized during Kalmadi raids: CBI
December 24th, 2010 - 7:49 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday recovered many “important documents” during raids at the residential and business premises of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. “Several important documents recovered during the raids are being scrutinised,” CBI deputy inspector general and spokesperson Vinita Thakur told reporters.
The central probe agency searched Kalmadi’s houses in New Delhi and Pune and his brother’s house in Mumbai following allegations of financial wrongdoing in the Oct 3-14 Games.
Thakur said the CBI had conducted raids in five places in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune in pursuit of the investigations into financial irregularities in the CWG Queen’s Baton Relay.
She pointed out that CBI had already registered a case under Prevention of Corruption act on Nov 15 this year against organisaing committee joint director general (revenue, marketing and chairman secretariat) T.S. Darbari, and deputy director general (marketing) Sanjay Mahendroo as well as London-based private firm A.M. Films.
“It was alleged that the accused officials in OC in conspiracy with London-based private firm awarded the work of installation of video screens at the venue of Queen’s Baton Relay at inflated rates. The work was awarded to London-based firm purportedly on the basis of fake quotations and not following standard procedures,” Thakur said.
She added that the accused were charged with causing huge loss to the government and corresponding wrongful gain to the accused firm. Both Darbari and Mahendroo are in judicial custody in Tihar Jail.
