Manmohan, Sonia pay tribute to Rajiv Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders paid tribute to former prime Rajiv Gandhi on his 66th birth anniversary at his memorial Veer Bhumi here Friday.
Vice President Hamid Ansari was amongst the others who paid homage to Gandhi.
The day is being observed as ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’ (harmony day), which will be followed by “social unity” fortnight being observed from Aug 20 till Sep 3.
The theme of Sadbhavana Diwas is to promote national unity and harmony irrespective of religion, caste, language or region.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated May 21, 1991 in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. He was India’s prime minister 1984-89.
