Man Arrested For Death Threats Against Senator Murray
April 7th, 2010 - 10:32 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonApr 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A sixty four year old resident of Washington state was arrested by police and charged on Tuesday for threatening to kill Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat from Washington State. It was the latest in a long string of threats against members of Congress in both parties since the health care vote last month. Many Americans were upset by the results of the reform bill’s passing, since they felt that the voice of America was not heard, and instead their representatives were coerced into voting against the wishes of the people. Unfortunately, many of those people chose to strike back in the wrong way, and threats against Congress ensued.
Charles Alan Wilson was taken into custody from his home in Selah, Washington after allegedly making phone calls to Senator Patty Murray’s office several different times, with the message “You’ve got a target on your back.” He was said to have called her many times over the last few weeks and also said things such as “I want to (expletive) kill you.” The calls were said to be directly related to Senator Murray’s vote which was in favor of the health care reform bill.
Wilson was also reported to have told FBI agents who were under cover that he carries a concealed firearm with a permit, and said that he was “extremely angry” because the health care bill had passed. If he is convicted he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He is the second person to be arrested for allegedly making threats to a member of Congress. A Philadelphia man, Norman Leboon was also arrested for allegedly threatening Eric Cantor, The House Minority Whip from Virginia.
The FBI was able to gather evidence against Wilson by having an agent call his home, and pose as a member of a group called “Patients United Now” which was supposedly trying to have the health care bill repealed. Pretending to be from an organization which was on the same side as Wilson, the agent was able to gain information from him. During the phone call, Wilson allegedly told the agent that he called Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell often. This is also when he shared that fact that he carries a gun, “I do pack,” Wilson reportedly told the FBI agent — a term that refers to carrying a gun. “And I will not blink…when I’m confronted, and that is a guarantee. It’s not a threat, it’s a guarantee.”
