Kolkata, Jan 17 (IANS) Mocking the West Bengal government’s initiative to attract investments by organising business summit “Bengal Leads 2012″, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), the state’s main opposition party, Tuesday blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “unrealistic and stubborn attitude” on land acquisition as the fundamental roadblock in the state’s industrialisation.

“Industrialisation cannot take place in the state only by inviting industrialists. For industrialisation, we need honesty and transparency. The government should clearly state its policies and position on governance. There should be proper understanding and cooperation between the government and the investors for proper industrialisation,” said an editorial in CPI-M’s Bengali mouthpiece Ganashakti.

In a bid to draw investments, Banerjee, during the business conclave, assured entrepreneurs that her government would provide all kinds of facilities and urged them to consider Bengal as their “dreamland”.

“But the fact is that in the last eight months, many promises have been made but nothing has been materialised so far. That is why investors are sceptical and there is lot of confusion among the investors regarding the policies,” said the editorial.

“If the government sends out imprudent messages by taking unrealistic decisions and showing a stubborn attitude then neither will industrialisation happen, nor will any other sector develop. Everybody understands the impact of unrealistic decisions except the chief minister.

“She thinks industrialisation will take place as per her order. She is thinking that by calling the industrialists and taking public statements from them about pumping in money, the investments will take place,” said the editorial.

The CPI-M held the new “land policy” of the state government as the main roadblock behind the industrialisation.

In the policy, the government stated it would not acquire any land for private industries, and business houses themselves have to buy land.

“If for a big industry, a large tract of land is required, then the industrialists will face a problem. The new government wants to spice up the illegal land trade in the name of industrialization, because the industrialists will recruit agents for acquiring land which will lead to forceful acquisitions by agents and their goons,” the editorial said.

“Nobody can comment clearly that on which issue what kind of stand the chief minister will take. Industrialisation cannot take place under the spectre of such irresponsible and whimsical attitude,” it added.

It said that the industrialists “sceptical attitude” towards the government’s policies is the main reason for which the investors are not investing in the state.

“The industrialists will not spend a single paisa until and unless they are convinced about their profit. They won’t behave like chief minister who is spending public money according to her own whims and conditions. That is why no big ticket investments have taken place in the state till date,” it said.
