Mamata warns of strong action against corrupt officials

Kolkata, June 20 (IANS) Three days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted a multi-crore rupee railway recruitment scam, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday warned of strong action against the erring officials.
“The government agencies also watch whether people are taking bribe. Both taking and giving bribe are crimes. So, I will says there is need to take strong action,” Banerjee said.
Eight people, including the son of the chairman of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) at Mumbai, B. Sharma, were arrested and Rs.60 lakh seized from banks accounts of the official by the CBI.
At least Rs.12 lakh was confiscated from former additional divisional railway manager A.K. Jagannathan as the CBI personnel conducted simultaneous raids in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Raipur to unearth the scam involving recruitments for the posts of assistant station masters and loco-pilots.
Sharma has been suspended.
