Mamata says Marxists, BJP communally dividing voters

Uluberia (West Bengal), April 30 (IANS) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Saturday alleged that West Bengal’s ruling Marxists and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were trying to create a communal divide to grab votes in the ongoing assembly elections.
“Every time, during elections they (Communist Party of India-Marxist) try to create a divide…They are doing this for the last many years to get votes. And in this dirty politics, they take the help of the BJP,” said Banerjee while addressing a rally here in Howrah district.
“Where the opposition fields a Hindu candidate, they go to Muslim voters and say don’t vote in favour of Hindu candidate. Where there is a Muslim candidate, they go to Hindu voters and ask them not to vote in favour of Muslims. They have been doing this for decades,” said Banerjee.
The fourth round of the six-phase West Bengal assembly elections will be held in four districts May 3.
Polling will be held in 63 assembly constituencies spread across Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and parts of Burdwan districts.
