Mamata indulging in politics of gimmick: Left Front

Kolkata, Oct 24 (IANS) West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Sunday charged Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee with indulging in politics of gimmick and making baseless allegations against political opponents on accidents and Kolkata Metro snags.
“The railway minister is making baseless allegations regarding the (May 28) Gyaneshwari Express accident, in which so many people were killed. In order to save the real perpetrators of crime, she is doing this,” Left Front chairman Biman Bose told reporters here.
Earlier this year, more than 200 people died in West Bengal in two major train accidents, including the Gyaneshwari crash. On both the occasions, Banerjee hinted at the involvement of the state’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in the accidents.
Rubbishing Banerjee’s allegations, Bose said: “She is always interested in indulging in politics of gimmick. Whenever there is a technical snag in the Metro, she raises her finger against the CPI-M-led Left Front.”
“This is simply baseless. According to experts, the technical snags in Metro are due to lack of infrastructure,” said Bose, who is also a CPI-M politburo member.
The Kolkata Metro in the recent past has faced frequent disruptions and technical snags, triggering panic and fear among its commuters.
