Kolkata, March 29 (IANS) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Tuesday drew large crowds in a two-and-a-half-hour long road show covering large stretches of north Kolkata.
Banerjee, along with several senior party leaders, led a mammoth seven-km long procession from Tala Park to Phool Bagan, accompanied by a large number of Trinamool supporters who carried party flags and posters and shouted slogans “Maa Mati Manush Zindabad” and “Mamata Banerjee Zindabad”.
Thousands of people stood on at both sides of the streets and waved at the firebrand leader, who returned the gestures.
At Shyambazar, residents of several buildings showered flower petals on the 56-year-old leader, who has established herself as the main alternative to the state’s ruling Left Front.
Trinamool supporters were carrying life size cutouts of Banerjee.
“I have come from Birbhum district to take part in Didi’s rally. I have been waiting here for three long hours to take part in this rally I am very happy to take part in it ,” said Saibal Barui, a 60 year old Trinamool Congress supporters.
Earlier on Sunday Banerjee had taken out a procession in the Behala area of South Kolkata.
