Kolkata, Aug 20 (IANS) Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday evening gave away awards to eminent writers and artists of the city, including those who supported her in the anti-land acquisition movements in Singur and Nandigram in West Bengal.
Altogether 12 personalities - including eminent writer and social activist Mahasweta Devi, poet Joy Goswami, veteran Bengali actor Supriya Devi, painter Suvaprasanna, dancer Amala Shankar, singer Nirmala Mishra, theatre personality Bivas Chakraborty - were honoured on behalf of the Indian Railways during the occasion.
Though there were 15 personalities in the list, three of them - filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh, classical vocalist Ajoy Chakraborty and Rabindra Sangeet exponent Suchitra Mitra - did not turn up to receive the honour.
“The Indian Railways is privileged to honour these personalities who have made a mark in various fields of art, culture, music and literature. We have issued each of them a lifetime free first-class railway pass so that they, along with one companion, can travel by train to any destination they choose,” Banerjee said at the 54th Annual Railways National Award Function here.
Among those feted, Mahasweta Devi, Suvaprasanna, Bivas Chakraborty, Joy Goswami, painter Jogen Chowdhury and singer Pratul Mukhopadhyay had played active roles during the anti-land acquisition movement spearheaded by main opposition Trinamool Congress party and its chief Banerjee in the past couple of years.

To ensure rise of Hitler in Germany, some perverted, corrupt, selfish, sycophant, spineless, greedy Communist hater intellectuals and media had played a key role. They had unleashed a flood of distorted, malicious and frenzied propaganda against Communists, Jews and working class. They did not project Hitler as ‘God’ only but also tried to establish him as ‘leftist’. Entire state machinery was misused to preach & promote his ideals & party. Same role is being played by few intellectuals and media of similar character in WB to project Mamata Banerjee as leftist and instal her as next Chief Minister. They have already been favoured with life long free AC Railway Pass and berths on various Railway Committees especially set up to accommodate them at huge public expenses whereas above 1,70,000 vacancies still remain unfilled in IR. IR and its official functions are converted into her party platform and instead of national flag, her party flags are put up everywhere in railway stations.

I fully agree with the above comment.
Mamata is fully a Hitler, with some people yelling “Joi mamata” like “Hail Hitler”.
The posters of her party almost 99% cases bear her color picture. It looks like a monarchy, not a democratic party.

Absolutely correct.People are just blind in hysteria. She is getting away with lies, nepotism and murder (via Maoists). Reminds one of Germany in the 1930s. God bless Bengal.

I read a story about a billionaire tycoon who deputed his henchmen to influence one decision of a democratically elected government in his favor. After successfully doing their job they reported that they purchased the whole parliament. Master asked what the price was. When he was told the amount he told “My God… …! I spend more than this for a single night rendezvous at Tokyo. Most of these intellectuals are like those MPs. They even can not realize that accepting publicly that largesse they lost their identity as intellectuals. I am sure that later they will feel that(tader jaat o gechhe pet o bhoreni) they have lost their credibilty but could not get proper return. Simply telling CPIM also do this will not help. One wrong doing never rectify other wrongs.
