Mumbai, March 29 (IANS) The Maharashtra assembly Tuesday revoked the suspension of five Shiv Sena and four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators after which the opposition ended its five-day boycott of the house.
The decision came after three rounds of meetings the government and the opposition leaders had with Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil to resolve the deadlock.
Soon after the house assembled Tuesday afternoon, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshawardhan Patil moved a proposal to revoke the suspension of the nine legislators and it was accepted.
The legislators expressed regrets for their unruly behavior following which the speaker revoked their suspension.
The legislators were suspended March 24 till Dec. 31 after they created a pandemonium when Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is also the finance minister, presented the annual budget March 23.
The Sena and the BJP boycotted the legislature demanding revocation of the suspension.
They also continued their protests outside the building at Nariman Point, wearing black badges and shouting slogans against the Demcratic Front government.
The suspended members included Ravindra Waikar, Vinod Ghosalkar, Girish Mahajan, Pratap Sarnaik and Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena, and Sardar Tara Singh, Vijay Shivtare, Harish Pimpale, and Vijay Deshmukh of the BJP.
