Madhya Pradesh opposition leader injured in car accident (Lead)
September 17th, 2008 - 11:26 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bhopal, Sep 17 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi suffered fractures in her leg and hand Wednesday evening when the car in which she was travelling collided head-on with another car on the Indore-Bhopal route. The Congress party demanded a probe into the accident. The accident took place at the Pagaria Ghat near Ashta in Sehore district while she was going to Indore.
“After first aid, Jamuna Devi, was immediately rushed to Indore where she has been admitted to the Bombay Hospital. Her right leg and hand have been fractured,” Indore Congress spokesman Bhagwan Singh Chouhan told IANS over telephone.
Jamuna Devi’s security guard Rajbahadur Singh, driver Hem Singh and her personal assistant Usha, all whom were travelling with her in the car, were admitted to the Hamidia hospital in Bhopal.
Party leaders including state Congress in-charge Narain Sami, former chief minister Digvijay Singh and state unit president Suresh Pachouri reached the Bombay hospital.
Pachouri said the state government should institute an inquiry into the accident.
“Jamuna Devi has in the past written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan demanding that her security be increased. But the administration did not even bother to provide a follow guard,” he said.
Congress spokesman Manak Agrawal said Jamuna Devi in her letter dated June 23, had written to the chief minister that there had been several attempts “to hit her car” on the way to Dhar from Bhopal.
