Madhya Pradesh celebrates R-Day amid tight security
January 26th, 2010 - 4:51 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, Jan 26 (IANS) Amid tight security, the Republic Day was celebrated across Madhya Pradesh with Governor Rameshwar Thakur unfurling the national flag and taking the salute at an impressive march past by various police forces in state capital Bhopal.
Thakur talked about various development works being taken up by his government and sought people’s cooperation in the further development of the state.
“Madhya Pradesh has made huge progress and was taking several steps keeping in mind the requirements of all sections of the society,” he said at Lal Parade ground here, adding the development works being implemented by his government in various fields were for one and all to see.
The governor also mentioned about women’s participation in local bodies (Panchayats and Municipal Corporations) and said the state has come a long way in providing the fair sex a bigger representation which they really deserved.
Tableaux depicting development in various fields in the state were also displayed on the occasion.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who unfurled the national flag at Rewa, said efforts were being made for the all-round development of the state but the cooperation of the people was also needed to make the government efforts a success.
Chouhan will later in the day embark on a ‘Madhya Pradesh Banao Yatra’ (Make Madhya Pradesh campaign) from Amarkantak in Anuppur district.
He will call upon the people to actively participate in the fulfilment and universalisation of seven priorities set for the development of the state. These priorities include making agriculture a profitable occupation, infrastructure development, increased inflow of investment, women empowerment, law and order and security, good governance and resources development, and health and education.
During the campaign, Chouhan will address public meetings and meet local citizens, entrepreneurs and social workers.
The chief minister will also interact with the officers of the administration and citizens to seek cooperation for programmes like water and energy conservation, greenery, sanitation, de-addiction, education and health.
