Lucknow supports Hazare with fasts, processions

Lucknow, April 8 (IANS) From Lucknow University students, doctors and teachers to the common man - more people in Lucknow came out in the support of Anna Hazare’s ongoing campaign for a stringent anti-corruption law while three social activists’ also continued their hunger strike for the fourth day Friday.

Hundreds of people from all sections converged on the Jhulelal Park near the Lucknow University campus, where the three activists - Akhilesh Saxena, Indu Singh and Munna Lal - are sitting on their fast.

“The three activists along with us are determined to take forward the campaign that was started by the veteran social activist. In fact, it has now become a revolution that is taking place across the country to root out corruption,” Sandeep Pandey, a participant in the demonstrations at the park, told reporters.

“Munna Lal even fainted for a while. Doctors, who had came here to extend support to the campaign, advised him to get hospitalised, but he refused,” he added.

Students of Lucknow University and various colleges marched in processions shouting slogans like ‘Bhrashtachar mitana hai, Anna ka saath nibhaana hai (Root out corruption by supporting Anna)’ and ‘Anna tum sangharsh karo, hum tumhare saath hain (Anna, fight on, we are with you)’.

“India will achieve her independence in a true sense only when we are able to root out the corruption from the country. We have to continue with the fight for the national cause,” university student Chanakya Agnihotri said.

Lawyers, engineers, teachers and other professionals also participated in the demonstrations at the Jhulelal Park.

A candlelight march was taken out late Friday evening.

“It is high time that we all should come on a common platform to wage a war against corruption. We all should support Anna as he is fighting for us and not for any specific group,” said Kamlesh Tiwari, a student of KKV College.
