Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal Makes Gun Legal In Church

July 8, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Bobby Jindal, the Governor of Louisiana has signed a bill yesterday, which makes taking guns in to the church, legal. This piece of news has not gone down well with the anti-gun violence advocates.
According to this new bill, 15th August onwards, guns will become legal in church. The state legislature earlier rejected the bill but it was passed when the bill got directed to another gun licensing bill.
Jindal has been in the news since last few days for speaking publicly against the management of the Obama administration in the oil spill case.
The planning committees have recently rejected his attempts of building islands and sand banks to guard the Louisiana coastline. Even his appeals to the government have failed to have any affect.
Now, even if the oil spill efforts are kept aside, he will be facing a new problem for this new bill to allow the guns in church. This new bill would increase the security level at the religious institutions, which are often targeted. The risk will also be higher for everyone attending such places.
Henry Burns, who introduced the bill, has shown his concern over the security of the church goers, mainly those in the crime ridden neighborhoods.
Now, as the bill is passed, it would allow the people to carry concealed weapons to mosques, churches and synagogues if they have passed training and background checks.
On this new bill, New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond said, “Even if we talk about the more challenging neighborhoods, they don’t face problems inside the church. The problems lie outside the church or in a park near the church but never in the church.”
