New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) The Lok Sabha was disrupted Thursday after an uproar over the anti-graft Lokpal bill that is expected to be tabled in the house later in the day.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad raised the red flag over the proposed legislation that envisages the setting up of an ombudsman to check corrupt politicians and government officials.
Lalu Prasad questioned the government’s intentions over what he called an “incomplete” bill and demanded a separate quota for minorities in the Lokpal body.
“There should be reservation for minorities,” he shouted in the house when Speaker Meira Kumar allowed him to raise the matter ahead of the introduction of the bill.
He said many MPs had not received the copy of the bill before it is tabled.
“I didn’t get it, many members didn’t get it… How did the media receive the copies of the bill?” the RJD leader asked.
There was ruckus in the house as Lalu Prasad spoke, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house till 2 p.m.
The RJD leader had earlier told reporters that he would not allow the bill in its present form “at any cost”.
“There has to be quota for minorities in the Lokpal. They (the government) have succumbed to the pressure from the BJP and the RSS and removed the provision for minority quota,” he said.
