New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS) The Lok Sabha was adjourned Friday after members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Congress clashed over the issue of separate statehood to Telangana.
When Question Hour began, TDP MPs, supporting a united Andhra Pradesh, gathered near Speaker Meira Kumar’s podium. This was soon after Meira Kumar completed the obituary references to four former MPs.
Opposing the TDP members, ruling Congress members from Telangana region raised slogans of “Jai Telangana”.
When they tried to rush towards the speaker’s podium, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Law Minister Veerappa Moily sent them back to their seats.
But the uproar continued even when Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was giving answers during Question Hour on questions related to his ministry.
Unable to conduct proceedings smoothly, the speaker adjourned the house at 11.20 a.m. till noon.
