New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) Lok Sabha was adjourned Thursday following an uproar in the house by Trinamool Congress and Left parties over violent clashes in West Bengal’s Hooghly district that left one man dead and five injured.
When Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay tried to raise the matter in the house during zero hour, the Left parties led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) opposed vehemently.
Speaker Meira Kumar said she would allow the Trinamool Congress leader to raise the matter later in the evening.
Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee was present in the house.
But the uproar between the two sides continued. The chair’s repeated attempt to pacify the agitating members of both sides including CPI-M’s veteran leader Basudeb Acharia did not yield result.
Finally, at 12.30 p.m., she adjourned the house for an hour.
Before the start of the question hour, Trinamool Congress’s Kalyan Banerjee tried to raise the matter, asking Home Minister P. Chidambaram to intervene in West Bengal.
