Lok Ayukta cannot probe Achuthanandan’s son: Chandy
April 19th, 2011 - 6:14 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, April 19 (IANS) Kerala’s opposition Congress leader Oommen Chandy Tuesday said that the allegations against Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s son cannot be probed by the anti-corruption watchdog Lok Ayukta.
“The allegations against Arunkumar (Achutnandan’s son) cannot be inquired by the Lok Ayukta because he works with the Institute of Human Resources Development, which is registered under the Charitable Societies Act, and hence does not come under the purview of the Lok Ayukta,” Chandy told reporters.
The chief minister had handed over to the Lok Ayukta the letter Chandy wrote making allegations against his son.
Chandy, former chief minister and leader of opposition in the state assembly, said Achuthanandan had asked him to put on paper all the allegations against his son and even name a police official to conduct the inquiry.
In a seven-page letter to Achuthanandan last month, Chandy made 11 allegations, including a claim that Arunkumar accepted a bribe of Rs.7 lakh from the sandalwood mafia in 2004 and that he scuttled a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the lottery scam in the state.
The Lok Ayukta Monday summoned Chandy and Arunkumar June 2 to look into the petition.
Chandy said he was yet to get the notice.
