Lisa Murkowski wins over Joe Miller
November 18th, 2010 - 7:35 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattAlaska, Nov 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Republican Lisa Murkowski has won the seat in Alaska. She did beat her nearest contender, Tea Party movement’s Joe Miller.
The seat was the last to be decided after the 2nd of November midterm elections in the United States. However the result will not change the composition of the Senate. The Democrats find themselves in a very difficult position in power and the Obama administration have no option but to engage the Republicans in whatever they want to do.
The results available indicate that Murkowski won over Joe Miller by more than 10,000 votes. The figures were released on Wednesday. The figures were 100,868 for Murkowski and 90,468 for Miller. Miller has not conceded to the defeat and that raises the possibility of a legal wrangle on the election outcome. That notwithstanding, Murkowski spoke to her supporters in Anchorage on Wednesday evening.
She didn’t achieve her feat on a silver platter. On her way to winning the seat, Murkowski became the first Senator to win an election with a write-in-campaign in more than 50 years. The Democrat candidate, Scott McAdams had a mere 59,817.
