Lucknow, Jan 26 (IANS) A legislator from Bihar and two of her gunners have been booked for allegedly manhandling a woman in a train in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, officials said Tuesday.
Jyoti Singh, a member of Bihar’s legislative council from the Congress, and two of her bodyguards allegedly assaulted the 32-year-old woman in the AC coach of the Patna-Delhi Rajdhani Express, police said.

“We have initiated an enquiry into the case. On the basis of preliminary investigations, we have arrested one of the gunners of the legislator,” Government Railway Police inspector V.K. Shukla told reporters in Kanpur, some 90 km from Lucknow.

The two gunners were identified as Upendra and Vimal.

“While we will take necessary action against the legislator only after the completion of the enquiry, Upendra, one of the gunners, managed to escape when we tried to question him in connection with the case,” the official said.

According to officials, a dispute initially erupted over seat sharing between the woman and the legislator’s two guards. Later, the legislator intervened and the three assaulted the woman, who is a native of Delhi.
