Legislator accused of murder threatens policeMarch 21st, 2009 - 4:31 pm ICT by IANS
Lucknow, March 21 (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Shekhar Tiwari is in prison on charges of murdering a government engineer in Uttar Pradesh. But police say he still managed to get drunk and create a ruckus both outside and in the jail.
Police say the incident took place Friday afternoon after Tiwari, lodged in Etawah jail, was brought out for an appearance in a court in neighbouring Auraiya district. Tiwari is the Auraiya legislator.
“Tiwari was apparently drunk when he created a scene on the streets of Auraiya,” a police official told IANS on telephone from Etawah.
How Tiwari got access to liquor remains a mystery. Police at the Auraiya police station say that while on his way back to Etawah, Tiwari hurled abuses at the policemen.
“I will see each and everyone of you once I am back; and let me tell you that will not take long,” he allegedly thundered at the policemen.
No sooner did he return to Etawah jail than Tiwari again went on his abusive spree, screaming at warders and inmates, police said.
“You all do not know me, what I am capable of doing. The government is fully behind me. I will soon teach everyone the lesson of their lives,” he is alleged to have said, shouting at the top of his voice.
Tiwari has been accused of beating public works department (PWD) executive engineer Manoj Kumar Gupta to death on the night of Dec 24 last year after the victim did not give in to his extortion demands.
