Left publishes self-appraisal on anti-Maoist action
November 21st, 2010 - 9:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) With assembly elections in West Bengal barely a year away, the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sunday released a self-appraisal of its “efforts” against the Maoists in the rebel-affected districts of the state.
A communique from the party’s Central Committee said: “The Central Committee appreciated the efforts of the party in the Maoist affected districts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia, where people have been mobilised to oppose Maoist violence.”
“In the past four months, people have been coming out in large numbers and holding protest demonstrations and rallies against the depredations of the Maoists and have isolated them from most parts of junglemahal (forested areas of the three districts).”
CPI-M also blamed Trinamool Congress (TMC) for openly supporting the guerrillas.
“The Trinamool Congress, which is openly colluding with the Maoists, continues to extend support to them. The Central Committee condemned the violent attacks by the TMC combine and the Maoists who are killing CPI-M cadres and supporters in various parts of the state,” the communique said.
The party also paid tribute to “319 comrades who have been killed in the state since the last Lok Sabha elections”.
