Left playing destructive role in ousting secular government: CongressJuly 18th, 2008 - 9:17 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, July 18 (IANS) Attacking the Left parties, the Congress Friday said they were playing a “destructive role” by deciding to side with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the July 22 trust vote and helping form a “communal” government at the centre. “The Left is playing a destructive role. What would be the implications of it, they don’t know. What would be the consequences of it, they don’t know. I am asking them to play a positive role,” Congress general secretary M. Veerappa Moily said.
“They are playing a dangerous game to oust a secular government and install a communal government. The people of this country would not forgive them for this,” Moily said.
“The Left has said that they will go to any extent to stop the India-US nuclear deal. It means that they are now indulging in horse-trading. This is the limit if absurdity,” he said.
“They have said they don’t have any problem being co-passengers (with the Bharatiya Janata Party). I ask them who is driving? It is the BJP or the NDA (National Democratic Alliance), which is driving. The Left is helping in formation of a communal government by destablising the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government,” Moily said.
The Congress denied reports that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren was joining hands with the BJP.
“The BJP has offered Shibu Soren the post of chief minister (of Jharkhand), and is that not immoral? Soren and JMM are an integral part of the UPA and are with us,” Moily said.
“The BJP has already said that they will build the Ram Mandir (in Ayodhya). They intend to carry on with their communal agenda. I don’t know what to say, but it looks like the Left has joined the bandwagon,” he said.
Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja said: “I reject what Moily has said, they should substantiate what they are talking.”
