Left Front to launch protest against price rise
February 8th, 2010 - 5:24 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Kolkata, Feb 8 (IANS) West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Monday said that it would launch a protest against the rising prices of essential commodities by taking out rallies and holding street corner meetings across the state between Feb 20 and March 9.
“The state Left Front will protest against the price hike issue by taking out rallies at the district level between Feb 20 and March 2. After that we will organise various street corner meetings across the state till March 9,” Left Front chairman Biman Bose said at a press conference here.
Besides the price rise, the Left Front partners Monday discussed the Ranganath Mishra Commission report recommending that ten percent of government jobs be set aside for Muslims and five percent for other minorities and the issue of reopening closed jute mills.
Bose said the Left Front had already suggested the state government take necessary steps for implementing the panel’s recommendations.
About reopening jute mills across West Bengal, he said: “Many jute mill owners are interested to reopen their units. But the interest of the jute mill workers must be taken care of.
“We should all move towards resolving the jute mill issue,” Bose said.
