Left Front to launch agitation in Bengal
October 10th, 2011 - 11:24 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 10 (IANS) West Bengal’s opposition Left Front Monday said it will organise a “law and order violation agitation” throughout the state next month to protest skyrocketing prices and corruption.
“We will organise a law and order violation agitation in the state from Nov 11 to 29. From Nov 11 to 25, the movement will be held in the districts, while the stir will be staged in Kolkata Nov 29,” Left Front chairman and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary Biman Bose told reporters here.
“The campaign is to protest the soaring prices of essential commodities, corruption and attack on democracy,” he said.
“Atrocities have not stopped in the state. Prices of essential commodities are soaring. We have protested against these. But no mechanism has been taken to arrest the swelling prices,” he said.
He added that all-India trade unions will launch a ‘jail bharo’ programme Nov 8 across the country.
On Gorkha Janamukti Morcha’s (GJM) demand to bring the Gorkha-dominated areas of Dooars and Terai under the new hill authority, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), he said: “GTA can be given additional power on a few subjects. But there is no need to increase the area under it…Terai and Dooars should not be included.”
