Left favours grand alliance against DMK

September 27th, 2008 - 2:43 pm ICT by IANS -

Bharatiya Janata PartyChennai, Sep 27 (IANS) The Left in Tamil Nadu favours a grand alliance against the ruling DMK for the Lok Sabha elections by bringing together the AIADMK and actor-politician Vijaykanth, party sources said Saturday.”Both (AIADMK chief J.) Jayalalitha and Vijaykanth are politicians who understand the state’s needs, have a secular disposition and are not part of the Congress or BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) bandwagons,” a Communist Party of India (CPI) leader said.

“If they are part of the same front, the DMK and the Congress will be routed,” the leader added.

An opinion poll conducted by the Loyola College has given the DMK a little over 25 percent of popular vote versus 38.5 percent to the AIADMK and more than 19 percent to Vijaykanth.

However, Vijaykanth’s DMDK party has shown greater inclination for a third front in Tamil Nadu, which accounts for 39 Lok Sabha seats.
