Lebanese presidential election put off againMarch 10th, 2008 - 6:55 pm ICT by admin
Beirut, March 10 (Xinhua) Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri Monday postponed the parliamentary session, which was scheduled to elect a new president, till March 25. This is the 16th postponement since president Emile Lahoud ended his term in November.
The secretariat of the Lebanese Parliament issued a statement, saying the speaker postponed the session till March 25.
Members of parliament from both the ruling coalition and the opposition Sunday had released a statement, excepting another delay in the presidential election.
The new date set for the election session is four days prior to the Arab summit to be held in Damascus March 29-30.
Arab countries, mainly Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have set election of a new Lebanese president, as a precondition to attending the summit.
