Lawyer behind Yeddyurappa arrest faces contempt case
October 15th, 2011 - 11:09 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, Oct 15 (IANS) Bangalore advocate Sirajin Basha, whose complaint against B.S. Yeddyurappa resulted in the former Karnataka chief minister being jailed Saturday, now faces a case of contempt of court.
Justice B.S. Patil of the Karnataka High Court Saturday directed the court registrar to initiate contempt proceedings against Basha, who along another advocate, N.K. Balaraj, has filed five cases of corruption and illegal land denotification against Yeddyurappa.
Basha is facing contempt case as he objected to Justice Patil continuing to hear a petition by Yeddyurappa seeking quashing of cases filed by the two advocates and summons issued by the Lokayukta special court.
On Sep 30, Justice Patil had stayed the proceedings against Yeddyurappa in the Lokayukta special court. Patil had criticised Basha’s conduct, seeking more time to argue his case.
However, on an appeal by Basha, a two-judge bench of Justice N. Kumar and Justice Arvind Kumar lifted the stay on Oct 4.
On Friday, Basha filed another petition in Justice Patil’s court, requesting Patil to stop hearing Yeddyurappa’s petition and transfer it to another judge.
Justice Patil Saturday said Yeddyurappa’s petition will now be heard by another judge to be decided by the chief justice and also ordered contempt proceedings against Basha.
