New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) Rural Development Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said Thursday that the government will examine the suggestions of the National Advisory Council (NAC) on the proposed changes in the land acquisition policy and the amended bill will be tabled during the monsoon session of parliament.

“We will certainly examine whatever suggestions have been made by the NAC…The policy will be in the interest of the farmers. We want the farmer to get a good market price for his land and also ensure his proper rehabilitation,” Deshmukh said here.

The minister said the ministry will take “something from every proposal” coming to it and the bill will be presented in the monsoon session of parliament.

A NAC working group on land acquisition and resettlement and rehabilitation has said in a draft note that the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill, 2009 and Resettlement and Rehabilitation Bill, 2009 should be merged into National Development, Acquisition, Displacement and Rehabilitation Act.

The draft note said new legislation should be tested on whether it discourages forced displacement, minimises adverse impact on people, habitats, environment and bio-diversity, provides a just compensation and rehabilitation package.

The NAC is expected to deliberate the draft note at its meeting May 25.
