Thiruvananthapuram, April 13 (IANS) The Kerala government would express its solidarity with the Beijing Olympics by holding state-wide gathering of eminent sports personalities April 17, the day the Olympic torch relay arrives in the country. “We will express our solidarity with the Olympics and the state government will hold special assembly of sports personalities at 13 district headquarters and one at the Martyr’s Column here, where a pledge will be taken,” Sports Minister M. Vijayakumar told reporters here Sunday.
The state government, in association with the Kerala Sports Council, will organize the programme.
Many athletes from Kerala have participated in the Olympics in the past including athletes like P.T. Usha, Shiny Wilson and Anju Bobby George.
