Kerala orders CBI probe into attack on teacher
November 2nd, 2011 - 7:38 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Nov 2 (IANS) The Kerala government Wednesday gave its nod for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the brutal attack on a school teacher Sep 27 in Kollam district.
Krishna Kumar, a school teacher, was found severely injured around 10.45 p.m. near Kottarakara town, some 70 km from here.
Speaking to reporters here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said there was a demand from the Left opposition that the case be handed over to the CBI.
“I got letters from Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, former CPI (Communist Party of India) minister M. Ratnakaran and Kottarakara legislator Ayisha Potti that this case be handed over to the CBI and we have done that now,” said Chandy.
The injured teacher’s school is owned by Kerala Congress (Pillai) leader R. Balakrishna Pillai, whose party is an ally of the Congress-led ruling government.
A medical board concluded that Kumar’s injuries might have been caused due to a vehicle hitting him.
Achuthanandan alleged that the attack was masterminded by Pillai and his minister-son K.B. Ganesh Kumar. Kumar and his wife are teachers in a school run by Pillai.
