Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 25 (IANS) The Congress-led opposition in Kerala will urge Governor R.S. Gavai to order an inquiry into the allegations against Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and his son, a party leader said Friday.Addressing reporters here after a late Thursday meeting of the United Democratic Front (UDF) liaison committee meeting, convenor P.P. Thankachan said the UDF will seek the governor’s intervention on the issue.

“Achuthanandan and his government are taking a vindictive stand against us before the assembly polls. They have registered false cases while he is silent on launching a probe on the allegations against him and his son,” said Thankachan.

Thankachan was referring to the sex scandal cases the government reopened recently, in which a UDF leader was involved.

“A lot of evidence has come out on the allegations against V. Arunkumar (Achuthanandan’s son) and that too from respectable people. Still no probe has been ordered. Also the charge that Achuthanandan tried to influence a judicial commission probing a liquor tragedy was raised by his own party leader P. Sasi,” added Thankachan.

The Congress Thursday came out with the remarks made by late technocrat K.P.P. Nambiar in his book that Arunkumar had asked him for bribe to approve the proposed Kannur power project.

The Congress also released a long list of foreign trips made by Arunkumar in recent times.

The party alleged that Arunkumar had produced fake certificates to secure admission for Ph.D. in the Kerala University. The university had denied him admission and a court later upheld the decision.

The UDF has constituted a nine-member committee to draft its election manifesto.

“The UDF will hold three major political conventions in three cities next week,” Thankachan said.

The Congress will also launch seat sharing talks with its allies next week, he added.

The government has called an urgent cabinet meeting Sunday. The indications are that the poll notification for the state will be issued March 1.
