Washington DC, Aug 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Some believe that politics is not necessarily about doing what is right. They say it is about doing what is popular and that might be the reason why Ken Melhman has in just six years moved from being a serious critic of same sex marriage to being a serious supporter of gay marriages.

Ken who was a member of the Bush administration opposed and resisted the idea of same sex marriage but he has now sued to have California’s Proposition 8 overturned and all these in a period of six years.

But Ken says that he just “answered the questions” about same sex marriage “honestly” and that was why his orientation has changed. He was speaking to ABC news about his new orientation and he said his family is now aware about his change in sexual orientation.

There aren’t much gay supporters in the Republicans but recently, some high profile former members of the Bush administration have given their support to recognizing same sex marriages. The former vice president - Dick Cheney has revealed that he supports the recognition of gay marriages and so has the former first lady of the United States, Mrs. Laura Bush. Ted Olson, the Solicitor general during Bush’s administration has also given his support to same sex marriage although the Republican official platform in 2008 does not recognize gay marriage.
