Aug 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In what has come as a shocking revelation for the opponents of same sex relationship, the chairman of Republican National Committee and a campaign aide of former US president George W. Bush, Ken Mehlman has come out clear about his sexuality. He has admitted that he is gay. The revelation is quite shocking as he has been known long for his anti-gay sentiments. The revelation has made the conservatives stunned and they are yet to react. He said that his views on gay relation and marriage have changed. He also added that he will support same sex relation now onwards.
Ken Mehlman also said that he is really thankful to his friends and family members for their unconditional support. He said that he wanted to come out of the closet earlier but could not. He possibly went through intense inner conflict as some psychologists’ are saying. The GOP is known for its anti-gay stance and working there for a long time was possibly stressful for him. He used to be the Republican National Committee’s chairman during a time when the party was vocal about its anti-gay activities. He personally opposed gay marriage at that time.
Ken Mehlman has said that following the disclosure of his orientation after 43 years he feels relieved. He now works with an investment house in New York. He has expressed his gratitude to all those who have stood by him all these years. Needless to say the LGBT activists and proponents of gay marriage have got a boost after his declaration. The republicans have not reacted yet to his declaration.
