Karunanidhi, wives declare Rs.43 crore assets; Jayalalithaa’s are Rs.64 crore
March 24th, 2011 - 9:26 pm ICT by IANSChennai, March 24 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and his wives have declared assets worth Rs.43 crore while AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa has declared Rs.64 crore of assets. Both the leaders Thursday filed their nominations for next month assembly polls.
While Karunanidhi is contesting from Tiruvarur, Jayalalithaa will be contesting from the temple town Srirangam constituency.
Both the leaders have shifted their constituencies this time in favour of a safer seat. In 2006, Karunanidhi won from Chepauk constituency here while Jayalalithaa won from Andipatti.
Karunanidhi is seeking re-election for the 12th time for the 234 member house and aims for the chief minister post for a record sixth time.
Jayalalithaa will be aiming to enter the assembly for the fifth time out of six attempts. Jayalalithaa lost the 1996 elections from Bargur constituency in Dharmapuri district.
According to the affidavit filed by Karunanidhi, his income as per tax returns filed for 2009-10 is around Rs.37.34 lakh while that of his two wives M.K. Dayalu and Rajathi is Rs.64.37 lakh and Rs.1.67 crore respectively.
Not owning any immovable asset, Karunanidhi’s movable assets are worth around Rs.4.92 crore.
His wives Dayalu and Rajathi have movable assets worth around Rs.15 crore and Rs.20 crore respectively.
The immovable properties owned by Dayalu and Rajathi are worth around Rs.5.5 lakh and Rs.3.14 crore respectively.
While Karunanidhi’s debt stands at Rs.10 lakh, that of his wife Rajathi (unsecured loan from daughter Kanimozhi) is around Rs.1.01 crore.
According to the affidavit filed by Jayalalithaa along with her nomination form, her movable and immovable assets are worth around Rs.64 crore. For the fiscal 2009-10, she shown an income of around Rs.15.39 lakh, excluding income exempt from tax.
