Karunanidhi sends legal notice to Subramanian Swamy
February 6th, 2011 - 5:44 pm ICT by IANSChennai Feb 6 (IANS) A day after Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy named him a co-accused in the 2G spectrum scam, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi Sunday sent him a legal notice demanding that he immediately retract his statement.Terming Swamy’s notice as motivated by personal malice, political rivalry and clamour for cheap publicity, Karunanidhi categorically stated that he has no involvement whatsoever to the alleged 2G spectrum case.
Saying that Swamy’s attempt to involve his name is motivated, Karunanidhi demanded that the statement be retracted in 24 hours, failing which legal action would be taken against him for defamation.
On Saturday, Swamy named Karunanidhi as a co-accused along with former communications minister A. Raja in the 2G spectrum scam in his complaint to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in New Delhi.
“I have named DMK chief Karunanidhi as a co-accused along with Raja in the matter and many more names will be added,” Swamy told the court.
He said the matter is wider than the CBI investigation and in the “nation’s interest”.
Swamy had earlier filed a complaint, seeking registration of a criminal case against Raja for his alleged role in the scam, which, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), caused a presumptive loss of Rs.1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer.
Raja and two of his aides were arrested here Wednesday for their suspected role in the allocation of airwaves for second generation (2G) phone services.
